An Easter/Spring Wreath and He Has Risen Download

 I hope you all are having a wonderful week. Sorry- I have literally spent all of ten minutes on my computer these past few days so I still haven't finished catching up on e-mails and am way behind on blog reading but I just wanted to do a quick post with the last of my Easter projects this year. I made this wreath using two different tutorials from Jones Design Company.  You can find the first tutorial if you click here and the second one of you click here. I used a cotton fabric instead of burlap because I didn't have enough burlap left from my last project and didn't feel like heading out to get more. I already had all of the supplies except for the wreath form so I was able to do this whole wreath for just $3.50! I really like how it looks in real life, but it was hard to photograph for some reason.  (For a tutorial on the moss letters click here).

















 


 And here is the "He Is Risen" print. I had hoped to play around with it some more because it is a little more modern/graphic looking than I normally like it has been a bit hectic here the last few days so I am just going to go ahead and put it up like this. I still haven't been able to figure out how to upload PDF files so these are just really large JPG's and hopefully will print out okay, although they may be a little blurry - sorry! Once I figure out how to do PDF's I will start uploading prints that way.
 

















Now I am going to try to get my porch finished before the baby arrives! I hope you all have a fabulous week! I also wanted to wish my parents a very happy 30th anniversary today! I love you!!!!!

Some More Easter Decorating, Egg Tutorial, Thank You Fifi, and The Final Four

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. The first Final Four game is about to start so I am going to try to type this as quickly as possible!


I still have a few more projects I want to do for Easter but in case I don't get to them figured I would show you what we have done so far. The best part of this year's decorating is that the only thing I bought was some spray paint and the supplies for the moss letters (you can see a tutorial for those by clicking here). Everything else was free! I had planned on either having a robin's egg blue or a pink for an accent color but seeing how I went pretty overboard with the pink for Valentine's Day decided to just stick with neutrals for now. I still may add in some blue though.

I saw these eggs last year on The OC Cottage and thought they were really pretty. I made a bunch this year and a have them hanging from the branches in our living room and dining room. I plan on embellishing them when I get a chance but for now they are just covered in the book pages. I am not really sure how they are supposed to be made but this is how I did it. And the best part was I already had all of the supplies so they were free!


Here's what you need:


Brush
Bowl
Water
Mod Podge
Plastic Easter Eggs 
Book Pages (or I am sure newspaper would work as well)
(and if you want to hang them string and a glue gun)




1) Rip up the book pages 
(you can actually rip them up even smaller once you are applying them)



2) Soak the paper in the water. I just put it all in there and start working.



3) Now start wrapping the eggs.



4) Get the whole eggs wrapped. It's okay if you can see the egg color. 
Once the paper dries you won't be able to.



5). Now just dab some Mod Podge on and brush it over the egg. 
I dabbed some on each side to get enough to properly cover it.



After that I let them dry overnight and then put a dab of hot glue on the top of them and glued some string onto it and then hung them from my branches. I plan on embellishing them at some point here soon but for now they are just plain. 



I was so excited to receive an e-mail from the Fabulous Fifi saying that she had featured us on her blog earlier today! I am so so so excited and so incredibly honored. She is planning on coming here this fall and I am still pinching myself over that thought. Well, the game is about to start so I had better get this posted.  As many of your now our lives pretty much revolve around basketball here and of course the Final Four is the most exciting part of basketball season. Jon actually got to play in a Final Four back when he was at Carolina. It is pretty exciting to have a team from our conference, VCU, in it this year and the team they are playing, Butler, has a kid who played for Jon's dad last year so it's a bit hard knowing who to cheer for. This year, we will also be watching the women's Final Four tomorrow night and cheering for the sake of my brother. Yes, you read that right. Haha. It is rather ironic, really. My brother, Jason, is the baby of the family and the only boy (If you have been reading this blog for a while you probably know him from the sarcastic comments he often leaves on my posts). 



We all grew up playing sports and played basketball very seriously (regular season, summer leagues, AAU, etc.)  You would think therefore, that he would have a nice healthy respect for women's sports but instead he has always absolutely loved mocking them. Somehow while at Notre Dame he ended up becoming a practice player for their women's basketball team. If you don't know him that might not seem that funny but if you do you would see just how hilarious a thought that was. So, over the past two years he has had to change his tone from mocking women's sports to having a healthy dose of respect for them. And now, "his" team is headed to the Final Four.  He is a talented writer (he won an huge award his freshman year at Notre Dame for another piece he did) and wrote a pretty entertaining post on his blog that you might want to read. He wanted me to make sure I mentioned he was on a "creative hiatus" until the end of the semester when he graduates and that is why he has a serious lack of posts. He does have some pretty funny ones from last summer though that you might enjoy like this one on Lillie's departure from our month long stay in New Hampshire last summer (please note many of his parenting claims on my part are 100% sarcastic!), or his take on being a coach at basketball summer camp, or even the Crotty family Olympics (which I sadly missed).

A $7 Easter Egg Makover Project and our BIG SALE

The last few days have been pretty busy here as Lillie has been sick so I have barely touched the computer the last 24-48 hours. I had planned on doing a giveaway this weekend but instead will do it on Monday to coincide with our last day of our shop being open and our big sale! And either Wednesday or Thursday will have a fun little baby guessing contest. For now though, this will be another really quick post with the details of our sale and a few photos of another Easter project Lillie and I did last week. 


On Monday we will be opening our shop back up for the day and then when we close it 
we will not be reopening until August!

We have only ever had one sale before and quite a few people sent us e-mails afterwards saying they forgot to enter the code. We went back in and refunded those customers in paypal. Also, if you miss the sale Monday we will not be setting up paypal invoices or anything else afterwards. Once we close we will be closed. I know that may sound a bit harsh but the whole reason we are closing up our shop right now is because of the stress that the regular 3-4 AM bedtimes have been causing and after my last doctor's appointment Thursday know that we definitely need to close up shop for now.  (Although, don't worry, we have quite a few exciting changes planned for when we reopen in August!) And it isn't just for the sake of my health and the new baby's health either, both my mom and sisters have had an extra amount on their plates lately and we are all in need of a little break! (And despite everything she has going on right now, my poor mom is headed down here to take care of Lillie and I while Jon is out of town this weekend. I am quite excited, though, because there's nothing like having your mom around when you aren't feeling well!)


Okay, enough moaning and groaning. I didn't mean to sound quite so depressing I just wanted to explain why we won't be setting up special Paypal invoices and stuff like that. I hope that makes sense. Also, although you will get 30% off your total order it really will only be 30% off of all of the screenprinted items. We can't offer 30% off of the tutus and knit hats because we actually would lose money on a few of them if we did that. So, instead what we did was up their prices a little bit to compensate for that so even though you are getting 30% off of them when you check out, it really is a smaller percentage off of what there original price was. So, basically with the 30% discount both the tutus and hats will definitely be on sale but will really range from 5%-25% off of their normal price. Most of you may not have even noticed that the prices on those items was up a couple of dollars but I just wanted to disclose that because I hate when a store raises all of their prices and then claims to be having a big sale. Unfortunately, though we couldn't figure out any other way to do it because we wanted to offer 30% off the screenprinted items and that was the only way we could come up with for the tutus and hats. I hope that makes sense. I am writing it in the wee hours of the morning and I tend to ramble horribly and make very little sense when that happens =). 






Okay, enough about that. 
Now onto a little makeover Lillie and I did with some
egg topiaries and wreaths last week.


Last Easter we got four egg topiaries and two egg wreaths as a gift from someone. This year  I thought I would make them over to match our decor a little better. I think both Lillie and Jon were a bit disappointed in my decision as Lillie thought the colored eggs were "sooooo pretty", but they were a little bright for me.  As they had been boxed away since last Easter I had forgotten exactly what they looked like. In my mind the eggs were smooth so I had planned on spray painting them either a pale blue or an ivory color and then speckling them. Well, when I pulled them out of their boxes I remembered they had raised dots and swirls on them so that sent my natural speckled look out the window. Instead I just decided to spray paint them an ivory color and fill in all of the spaces with extra spanish moss and some other moss I had. (Although I did buy new moss for the letter project in my last post, I am quite cheap and generally reuse the same moss over and over for different projects, which is what I did for this project. And for that same reason, I didn't glue the moss in any spots, I just tucked it in so that when Easter is over I can pull all of it out and put it back in the two big bags I keep it in and save it for the next project. It would probably sound better to call myself thrifty but in this instance cheap is probably more appropriate seeing how moss isn't very expensive to begin with =) !) 


Here is what we had to start with:

And here is one of the wreaths:
 





We did three of the topiaries with the more brownish colored moss and the spanish moss and then did the fourth one with the leftover brighter green moss from the letter project because it is in a different room and thought the brighter green would look nice next to the bright limes.





So, for just $7 (two $3.50 cans of spray paint) we were able to makeover 4 topiaries and two wreaths!

I have a few more finished Easter projects to show you all and am also still working on a couple so once everything is done will show how the whole rooms look versus just the close-up shots in this post.

Also I want to wish my father-in-law luck! He is a high school basketball coach in Indiana and his team is playing in the state championship game tonight. We all were able to go two years ago when they won it, but as I am not allowed to travel only Jon will be able to go this time. Lillie and I will be cheering from home, though! Go Panthers!
