Jenni, our dear “Tyrant Leader,” has been trying to get me to blog for a while now. It's taken some time to convince me, but I must say no force or bribery has been applied to date. (Although I wouldn't mind the Adeliene in Black if you happen to have an extra...or custody of Lillie!) I suppose I'm a bit behind the times. I got my first cell phone at 18 (I specifically asked not to get one for my 18th birthday but my parents gave me one anyway because I was going away to college and “Miss Independent” is not exactly my theme song); I had that same phone for years and would probably still have it if my dad had not gotten me a new one (again, without telling me-I found out when my phone suddenly wouldn't call out) and I do NOT understand Blackberrys or iphones or any gadgets that have functions other than making phone calls! Naturally, I found blogs and tweets to be a bit out of my league. So when Jenni first mentioned blogging, I felt a headache coming on. But since she has agreed to walk me through this, or post it for me if that fails, I think I can do this without developing an ulcer.
So, my name is Jamie, and I am the youngest Crotty girl—oops, technically, I'm a Druke now. I got married last June, and fell even more in love with weddings than I was before. What's not to love? I enjoyed every step of the planning. I'm not going to explain why picking out the dress was fun; girls who don't enjoy this must be missing a chromosome or something. (Call me, and I'll pick it out for you!) Of course I enjoyed the usual things that all brides do, finding the perfect accessories, a pretty clutch, and looking at floral arrangements for inspiration. But then there were the tedious parts, like putting together the programs, menus, name cards. With a lot of help from my mom and sisters, I was able to have the unique elements that I had wished for, and have fun in the process. (Dana is thinking: cutting up hundreds of pages for the programs for days on end until I got blisters on my fingers from the Exacto was FUN?) To that, I say, you only get to do it once! Enjoy the blisters while they last! Or twice. Or three times. Depending on how many more weddings there are in the family...But still. One of my favorite things from the wedding was those programs, so at least in my surely unbiased opinion, Dana's blisters were worth it. The cover was titled “A Love Story” with the “authors” names at the bottom—myself and Josh. The sections of the program were separated into chapters, with a favorite quote under each chapter title. The prologue featured a picture of each of us as a baby and a quote from Rumi alluding to future love; the epilogue was a picture of the two of us together and Dante Alighieri's quote “Remember tonight, for it is the beginning of always.” I think the reason I loved this small detail so much was because it was so personalized. (A shout out to Jenni is in order for the many hours she put into translating my horrible sketches and poorly communicated ideas into a reality-I have trouble with the spoken word; there is a glitch somewhere between brain and mouth). Here are some of the details of my day. Can you tell I love pink?

The best thing about every wedding is the bride and groom. It is those two people, their families, where they come from, and where they are going that makes every wedding unique. It is so sweet to walk into a reception and see pictures of the bride and groom's parents or grandparents on their own wedding days. It can be a treat, a hoot, or both to find pictures of the bride and groom as children on the dessert table.
Browsing through tables named after the bride and groom's hobbies, places they have been together, or quotes they love is a great deal more interesting than searching for a number.
Personalized details, as opposed to mass-produced wedding paraphernalia, set a wedding apart in the memory of the guests. With dozens upon dozens of details to be planned for one single wedding, you are given countless opportunities to exercise your personal taste and style, and let your personalities really show. Narcissists aside, it's the only day in your life that literally is ALL ABOUT YOU. (Okay, and maybe the groom a little. Three parts bride and one part groom sounds reasonable.) But seriously, for this one day and one day only, everyone you know and love gets together to celebrate the two of you. You get to be queen for a day. Go ahead and make them bow.

Okay, so maybe don't go quite this far. Demanding bows might be a little Bridezilla. (My bridesmaids did it-not at my request!-in reference to an inside joke from when we were little. I'm not going to lie though-I didn't protest! I always did think I was a princess!)
Whether you are a girly-girl who has multiple tiaras and boas in your closet (guilty!), a rugby player who doesn't know the difference between tulle and taffeta, or fall somewhere in between, you are interesting enough for someone out there to want to grow toothless and senile with. So share that unique personality and style with the 50, 150, or 500 people you are inviting to share in the most special day of your life!
